OVERVIEW

Engineered for the critical demands of recording studios, the Studio Reference Series amplifiers are more than a new benchmark for precision amplifiers. They're an investment in long-term performance that anticipates and achieves the next step in professional audio demanded by studios and serious audiophiles.

Featuring an extremely wide dynamic range capable of accurately reproducing digital recordings, combined with super low harmonic and intermodulation distortion, these amps provide the best transfer function in the business. They also feature a damping factor of better than 20,000 for absolute speaker control with a tight, well-defined low end.

Sonic accuracy is just one of the advantages of the Studio Reference. Patented ODEP circuits detect and compensate for any demanding load condition, while PIP expansion permits easy customization with add-on electronics.

SPECIFICATIONS

Note: All measurements apply to amplifiers in stereo mode with 8-ohm loads and an input sensitivity of 26-dB gain, 1-kHz at rated power unless other otherwise specified. Specifications for units supplied outside the U.S.A. may vary slightly at different AC voltages and frequencies.

Output Power (Maximum average power at 1 kHz with less than 0.02% THD):

Stereo Mode with Both Channels Driven:

Studio Reference I: 800 watts into 8 ohms, 1,190 watts into 4 ohms.
Studio Reference II: 360 watts into 8 ohms, 565 watts into 4 ohms.

   Bridge-Mono Mode:

Studio Reference I: 2,375 watts into 8 ohms.
Studio Reference II: 1,145 watts into 8 ohms.

Signal-to-Noise Ratio: (A-weighted) At 26 dB gain with 8 ohm load.

Studio Reference I: Better than 120 dB below rated power.
Studio Reference II: Better than 117 dB below rated power.

Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): Less than 0.1% at rated power, 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

Intermodulation Distortion (IMD): (60 Hz and 7 kHz, 4:1):

Studio Reference I: Less than 0.005% from full bandwidth power to 78 watts rising linearly to 0.025% at 78 milliwatts.
Studio Reference II: Less than 0.005% from full bandwidth power to 36 watts rising linearly to 0.025% at 36 milliwatts.

Crosstalk (below rated power, 20 Hz to 20 kHz):

   Studio Reference I: > 70 dB.
Studio Reference II: > 65 dB.

Voltage gain (at maximum level setting, ± 1  dB):

Studio Reference I: 40-dB gain at 0.775-volt sensitivity; 35-dB gain at 1.4-volt sensitivity, 26-dB gain at 26-dB gain setting.

Studio Reference II: 37 dB gain at 0.775-volt sensitivity; 32-dB gain at 1.4-volt sensitivity; 26 dB gain at 26-dB gain setting.

Load Impedance: Safe for all types of loads. Rated for 4 to 8 ohms in Stereo, 8 to 16 ohms in Bridge-Mono mode, and 2 to 4 ohms in Parallel-Mono mode.

Input Impedance: Nominally 10 k ohms balanced and 5 k ohms unbalanced.

Controls: Enable, channel 1 and 2 level controls, stereo/mono (Stereo, Bridge-Mono, Parallel-Mono), ground lift switch, input sensitivity switch (0.775 V or 1.4 V for standard 1 kHz power or a 26 dB voltage gain), meter on/off switch, dynamic range/level meter switch, reset switch.

Indicators: Enable, Signal, IOC,  ODEP, Dynamic Range/Level meter.

Connectors:

Inputs: Balanced 1/4-in. phone jacks on chassis and female XLR connectors on standard PIP module.
Output: A pair of color-coded dual binding posts for each channel.
PIP: Standard back panel PIP connector.
AC Line: 3-wire male connector with 5 ft. cable.

Protection: Studio Reference amplifiers are protected against shorted, open or mismatched loads; overloaded power supplies; excessive temperature, chain destruction phenomena, input overload damage and high-frequency blowups. They also protect loudspeakers from input/output DC and turn-on/turn-off transients by means of a 4-second turn-on delay.

Dimensions: 19 in. (48.3 cm) standard rack mount width, 7 in. (17.3 cm) height, 16 in. (40.6 cm) depth behind mounting surface and 2.74 in. (7 cm) protrusion in front of mounting surface.
